Knitting, spinning, dying wool

One of the most ancient materials for clothes is wool. Very shortly after our forefathers, the cave men, learned that you can carry half a dead furry animal or a lot of fur to keep warm, they invented spinning wool. And what a superb material wool fibre is! It has lots of qualities that synthetic fibres do not reach - isn’t that cool.

If you are a wool aficionado and are fond of wool, you most probably will want to work with it. The first thing that comes to ones mind is spinning wool. I found a nice interesting site about that on a german blog: Schafwolle spinnen

Next thing is of course dyeing wool yourself. This is something many people don’t dare…although it is pretty easy and can be done in any household with plant and a few chemicals. Have a look over here (sorry, the video is only in german):Wolle zum Färben

Last but not least you will want to knit with your wool, and let’s be honest, although it can be really fun to do all the things like spinning and dyeing yourself, most of the time you will just buy a good ball of wool in a shop.

Read here about knitting on this german blog: Laces stricken

The wool shown on that page has proved to go nicely when knitting and is easy to wash. Now get your knitting needles or your spinning wheel and have some fun with wool!

How To Be The World’s Best Dad!

Many new Dad’s worry too much about how they’re going to deal with the new addition and often feel under pressure to react a certain way. Little do they know that it’s actually quite easy to be the world’s best Dad and just relaxing into it, following your gut instinct is the best way forward.

All of a sudden after you have waited and waited and experienced all the anxiety, fear and worry those immortal words arrive “congratulations daddy!”. For most people this is one of the biggest events ever to happen during our lives.

The usual reaction is one of complete awe. Most of us find our bottom lip on the floor in absolute wonderment thinking “what on earth do I do now?”. Some new dads reach for the cigarettes, others frantically make excited phone calls. Some new dad even faint, throw up or simply cry and run away!

There is a whole spectrum of reaction to this amazing news. In fact there are probably as many reactions to the news as there are Dad’s who experience this profound event. But there is one thing we all have in common. From that moment on and for the rest of our lives we are known as Daddy!

Luckily anyone of us can be the world’s best Dad. If you’ve been a kid at any time in your life (wink) then you can be a fantastic Dad to your little darling. If you were unlucky enough to grow up without a Dad in your life or maybe your Dad wasn’t the greatest then you’ll be well prepared to give your child all the things you never had in your relationship. You will know exactly how to make it special every day.

For those of us who were blessed with a great dad and had the perfect relationship you will also be well qualified to share all those special moments and and life-shaping experiences with your kids. You may also even find yourself dishing out advice to other Dads who are maybe finding it a bit more difficult to relate to their child.

Trust in yourself and you will become a natural after a while. You’ll realise that there are a whole host of things you can do with your beautiful little one to nurture and guide them through this rich tapestry we call life!

Rory has been writing articles online and in print for many years and was overjoyed recently to become a Dad after a few years of heartache trying to conceive.
